We would like to inform about an interesting roundtable discussion in December.

International Interior Design Roundtable - Local Influence On Global Design

The 2009 roundtable discussion will centre around the localization of multinational design: How is design evolving to incorporate regional design in a global business environment? Should there be a single design ethos for a multinational company with worldwide offices: How can a corporate brand identity be maintained? What about resorts
and hotels, restaurants, and retail operations: How extensively should regional trends and styles be integrated? Leading experts on international design will analyze this critical balance.

The DX invites you to join us for an exciting evening at the prestigious Design Exchange Awards, Canada's National design competition. It is the only awards program to judge design by results; balancing function, aesthetics and economic success.

Each year the winning projects from all DXA categories are exhibited at the Design Exchange. Past DXA exhibitions have traveled across Canada and as far a field as Korea.

Members attending will experience a truly wonderful evening. The program includes an exquisite sit-down dinner with entertainment and other fun surprises. Members are amongst the first to see the exclusive preview of the winning entries following the dinner and awards presentation.

This evening is a significant part of what the Design Exchange is all about.

Reminder: Parallel Nippon

Incase you haven't already RSVP'd we'd love for you to attend our opening reception this Friday, November 13th at 6:00pm for the upcoming exhibition Parallel Nippon.

Parallel Nippon focuses on 110 representative architectural specimens selected from among buildings constructed primarily in Japan in the 10 years from 1996 to 2006, presenting them against the backdrop of Japan’s socio-cultural environment. The exhibit retraces how Japan’s architectural scene has answered with fine-tuned designs to the demands of the age amid the transition from the period of the Japanese speculative “bubble” economy to the post-bubble period. Parallel Nippon is built around the idea of contrast: expanding metropolises versus local communities plagued by declining birthrates, grand cultural facilities with an international focus versus small but sensitive community facilities for local children or for the local elderly, and so forth.

Parallel Nippon is co-organized by the Architectural Institute of Japan and The Japan Foundation.

Dear DX Members,

We would love to have you join us at the DX Annual Fundraising Gala. Member tickets are $150 and proceeds support Youth Programmes and the DX Permanent Collection of Design. Dress is FASHIONABLY ECLECTIC, which means anything from jeans to sequins!

The DX has had a difficult financial year. Client rentals have declined 30%, and as you know, we don't receive government funding. We would love to see you here for a great night at the Design Exchange. We have an open bar, great food and live music. I know that you will have a good time seeing old friends.

Your support means a lot to me and to the DX staff. If you cannot attend due to conflicts, please consider a donation. No donation is too small and for anything above $25 you can receive a tax receipt.
