July 4th 2PM: workshop: Fluxus - Scheme livecoding, animation, games and plants&#60;br /&#62;
with Dave Griffiths  at pickledfeet&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
In this workshop you will find out about the emerging art form of&#60;br /&#62;
livecoding and learn how to write simple scripts to create animations in&#60;br /&#62;
3D space. After an introduction to the scheme programming language and&#60;br /&#62;
how to use it to build shapes and animate them, you will be let loose on&#60;br /&#62;
prototype game code for groworld - a game still in production which&#60;br /&#62;
takes elements from guerilla gardening, permaculture and plant growth.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
No previous programming experience required. Interest in games and&#60;br /&#62;
plants a bonus :)&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Please install fluxus prior to the workshop, which you can find here:&#60;br /&#62;

July 5th 8PM: performance:  Fluxus live coding with Dave Griffiths and&#60;br /&#62;
all participants at General Public&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Dave Griffiths is one part of Slub:&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Slub sound emerges from slub software; melodic and chordal studies,&#60;br /&#62;
generative experiments and beat processes. Process-based sonic&#60;br /&#62;
improvisations; live generative music using hand crafted and live coded&#60;br /&#62;
apps, scripts and l-systems in networked synchrony. With roots in UK&#60;br /&#62;
electronica and tech culture, slub build their own software environments&#60;br /&#62;
for creating music in realtime. Only custom composition and DSP software&#60;br /&#62;
is used. Everything you hear is formed by human minds.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Slub project their screens so that the audience are able to appreciate&#60;br /&#62;
their live software development process, which does not adhere to&#60;br /&#62;
industry quality control standards. They communicate using OSC over UDP&#60;br /&#62;
and eyebrow gestures. The output ranges from extra slow gabba, through&#60;br /&#62;
intelligent ambient to acid blues glitch.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;

		 <description>&#60;p&#62;&#60;br /&#62;
Schedule/locations/information before/on the day: &#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
FM: 107.9 MHz // 3050187482 // &#60;a href=&#34;http://1010.co.uk/org/breakthrough.html&#34;&#62;http://1010.co.uk/org/breakthrough.html&#60;/a&#62;&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
#breakthrough on irc.goto10.org and on this mailing list &#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Breakthrough is created as an experimental 12 hour event distributed&#60;br /&#62;
across Berlin locations, inter-network and radio space. Self-organising&#60;br /&#62;
nodes construct an event occupied with the dislocation of representation&#60;br /&#62;
[language, software], time and space, and maintained with a strict&#60;br /&#62;
scheduling and interrupt system backbone (micro-FM and Internet).&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
The term breakthrough describes a sudden shift in understanding or&#60;br /&#62;
technologies, and, finally, a clearing (Lichtung), an entry into&#60;br /&#62;
unknown and unmapped territories. An enclosure is breached allowing&#60;br /&#62;
access to another, totally unforeseen state or space. Communication is&#60;br /&#62;
thus implied, a new form of exchange, perhaps between two otherwise&#60;br /&#62;
unconnected domains, between the living and the dead, between many&#60;br /&#62;
worlds. What does the sheer possibility of a breakthrough imply for&#60;br /&#62;
communication between the past and the future?&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Breakthrough, as event, signals a change in direction, a pointing&#60;br /&#62;
towards new ways of actively describing and creating the world. Within&#60;br /&#62;
a complex mise en scene of workshops, lectures and performances,&#60;br /&#62;
diverse artists, theorists, researchers, and hackers collaborate in&#60;br /&#62;
the creation of a breakthrough which can rupture the enclosure of&#60;br /&#62;
scientific rationalism and enlightenment without recourse to named&#60;br /&#62;
magic.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
**Participants:&#60;br /&#62;

&#60;br /&#62;
Surrounded by invisible electromagnetic waves we live in an age of&#60;br /&#62;
unhearable cacophonies. Serial coded signals and their rhythms are&#60;br /&#62;
flying around us making a kind of unheard music.The investigations try&#60;br /&#62;
to analyse those signals and reconstruct their content using&#60;br /&#62;
contemporary technologies such as software-defined radio (USRP) and is&#60;br /&#62;
a collaboration between mediatheorist and archeologist Shintaro&#60;br /&#62;
Miyazaki and practitioner Martin Howse.&#60;br /&#62;

May 30th 2PM: RFID sniffer and RFIDuino [with Marc Boon]&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
micro_research hosts two parallel RFID-inspired workshops with Marc Boon.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
RFID sniffer workshop:&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
The RFID sniffer is a simple analog electronic circuit which can&#60;br /&#62;
detect the presence of 13.56 MHz RFID tags. These tags are commonlylibrary cards, public transport passes and so on. The RFID sniffer is&#60;br /&#62;
a fully self-contained circuit on a credit card sized circuit board,&#60;br /&#62;
including battery. During the workshop you will build your own RFID&#60;br /&#62;
sniffer, under my guidance.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Details: &#60;a href=&#34;http://shop.marcboon.com/snifferkit.pdf&#34;&#62;http://shop.marcboon.com/snifferkit.pdf&#60;/a&#62;&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Cost: &#38;#128;20 per participant (this includes all parts)&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
RFIDuino workshop:&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
RFIDuino is an Arduino shield for reading and writing 13.56 MHz RFID&#60;br /&#62;
tags. These tags are commonly used in all kinds of plastic cards like&#60;br /&#62;
access badges, bank cards, library cards, loyalty cards and so on.&#60;br /&#62;
RFIDuino consists of a 65x65mm circuit board, which plugs onto a&#60;br /&#62;
standard Arduino (NG, Diecimila, or Duemilanove). The board contains the&#60;br /&#62;
antenna and all circuitry to read and write to RFID tags. It is&#60;br /&#62;
connected to the Arduino using I2C, using the Wire library.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Details: &#60;a href=&#34;http://marcboon.com/rfiduino/docs/rfiduinokit.pdf&#34;&#62;http://marcboon.com/rfiduino/docs/rfiduinokit.pdf&#60;/a&#62;&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Cost: &#38;#128;50 per participant (this includes all parts)&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
For the RFIDuino workshop please bring Arduino (or equivalent), and&#60;br /&#62;
laptop.&#60;br /&#62;

&#60;br /&#62;
Background:&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Workshops led by field-expert practitioners extend over realms of code&#60;br /&#62;
and embedded code, environmental code, noise, transmission and&#60;br /&#62;
reception, and electromysticism. Workshops solely utilise free&#60;br /&#62;
software and GNU toolbase.&#60;br /&#62;

		 <title>Saturday 23rd May 9PM: Jamming Through Runtime with Valentina Vuksic at General Public</title>
		 <link>http://freshsent.telekommunisten.net/mail.cgi/archive/xxxxx/20090522202654/</link>
		 <description>&#60;p&#62;&#60;br /&#62;
Acoustic science fiction trips through the magnetic spheres of laptop motherboards.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Jamming Through Runtime, a performance following the day-long workshop at xxxxx_micro_research,expands and extends Valentina Vuksic's Trip(ping) Through Runtime,&#60;br /&#62;
inviting participants to join with both intrusive and non-intrusive interventions into otherwise hidden, interior processes of laptops and computer motherboards; a theatre or symphony of hard and soft audio interactions.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
A collection of elderly laptops is being examined via magnetic pickup microphones. The microphones transform the magnetic waves around the various electronic parts of the computers. Each action upon the laptops can be sensually experienced through a broad range of layered sounds. Already plugging the power and booting up an operating system&#60;br /&#62;
reveals an own small-scale universe of sounds and provides insight into the complex spare room emerging between hard- and software. This space is being explored and further modeled by triggering actions on purpose. System analysis tools, stress tests and custom c-programs&#60;br /&#62;
shall bring the characteristics of each machine into the limelight. &#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Tripping Through Runtime is part of a longer-term study, diving into the invisible interrelationships of hard and soft computer matters by sensual means. The project aims at provoking and detecting specific behaviour of individual computer components in match with adequate software pieces. The microphone demonstrations are part of the first experiments to become acquainted with the hardware components.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Jamming Through Runtime will be performed with Valentina Vuksic and xxxxx_micro_workshop participants at General Public, Sch&#38;ouml;nhauser Allee 167c, Berlin&#60;br /&#62;

cathode ray tubes [with Jo FRGMNT Grys]&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
This workshop is concerned with the re-use of VGA/CRT monitors as&#60;br /&#62;
experimental devices. It covers basic considerations of electronic&#60;br /&#62;
vacuum technology, particle acceleration, de- &#38;amp; re-construction&#60;br /&#62;
praising the empty space. Danger, sparks &#38;amp; entertainment!&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Practical experiments will be performed including VGA signal&#60;br /&#62;
generation, interference, signal injection, modification, graphical&#60;br /&#62;
animation without computer.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Participants are free to bring:&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
- old VGA monitors&#60;br /&#62;
- Arduino or equivalents with arduino 0012 installed (0015 produces some jitter due to&#60;br /&#62;
  optimisations) (&#60;a href=&#34;http://www.arduino.cc&#34;&#62;http://www.arduino.cc&#60;/a&#62;)&#60;br /&#62;
- GNU/Linux, Mac OS, Windows &#60;br /&#62;
- cut off VGA cables.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Additional monitors, equipment and Arduino-equivalents will be available.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Printed documentation/sourcecode will be delivered&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;

		 <description>&#60;p&#62;&#60;br /&#62;
A series of weekly working groups and workshops at&#60;br /&#62;
xxxxx_micro_research ; an independent research centre focusing&#60;br /&#62;
on the expanded construction and experience of free software and open&#60;br /&#62;
hardware.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Calendar:&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
May 2nd 2PM: Frequency Dependence: wave imaging open working group&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
May 9th 2PM: horror vacui - careful experimentation with monitor cathode ray tubes [with Jo FRGMNT Grys] &#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
May 16th: THE WHITE VISITATION &#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Forthcoming matter: &#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
software radio, hydrogen line, micro-cuisine, kitchen sink chemistry,&#60;br /&#62;
Kicad, openEEG, fiction generation, thoughtography, org-mode&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
... contact if you're interested in leading -related workop.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
//&#38;lt;-----------------------------------------------&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
May 2nd 2PM: Frequency Dependence: wave imaging open working group&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
... Polaroid film can be employed to map the fields directly in less&#60;br /&#62;
than five minutes. The method is both convenient and inexpensive. The&#60;br /&#62;
intensity of a field can be measured by simply holding the film in the&#60;br /&#62;
path of the waves.&#60;br /&#62;
Inspired by the work of professor Keigo Iizuka in the late 1960s,&#60;br /&#62;
Saturday's open working group will explore photographic imaging of the&#60;br /&#62;
fields of both ultrasonic waves and microwaves. A variety of wave&#60;br /&#62;
generating setups will be used with super-cooled, pre-exposed film in&#60;br /&#62;
an experimental attempt to record wave patterns of frequency dependent&#60;br /&#62;
phenomena. Participants are welcome to bring sources of both&#60;br /&#62;
microwaves (eg. wireless card with antenna) and ultrasonics.&#60;br /&#62;

Background:&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Workshops led by field-expert practitioners extend over realms of code&#60;br /&#62;
and embedded code, environmental code, noise, transmission and&#60;br /&#62;
reception, and electromysticism. Workshops solely utilise free&#60;br /&#62;
software and GNU toolbase.&#60;br /&#62;
