		 <title>mobile research//topology of a future city</title>
		 <link>http://freshsent.telekommunisten.net/mail.cgi/archive/xxxxx/20100107181944/</link>
		 <description>&#60;p&#62;&#60;br /&#62;
'Temporal bandwidth,' is the width of your present, your now. It is&#60;br /&#62;
the familiar '[delta-] t' considered as a dependent variable. The more&#60;br /&#62;
you dwell in the past and in the future, the thicker your bandwidth,&#60;br /&#62;
the more solid your persona. But the narrower your sense of Now, the&#60;br /&#62;
more tenuous you are.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
[Thomas Pynchon. Gravity's Rainbow] &#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
_____-micro-research announces the launch of a mobile research&#60;br /&#62;
laboratory devoted to the use of free software and open hardware&#60;br /&#62;
within the field of psychogeophysics. Field trips, working groups and&#60;br /&#62;
occassional workshops are planned for 2010.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
The first expedition will be titled Topology of a Future City and&#60;br /&#62;
takes place in early February in Berlin as part of Transmediale10.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Topology of a future city proposes a speculative working group&#60;br /&#62;
divining, describing and thus constructing a future city in ruins; a&#60;br /&#62;
series of descriptive urban vectors extrapolated from ghosted&#60;br /&#62;
electromagnetic, signal and literary traces.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Borrowing techniques from geophysical archaeology (revealing and&#60;br /&#62;
mapping of geophysical properties), narrative displacements (filmic&#60;br /&#62;
manipulations of temporality, science fiction), and coded&#60;br /&#62;
psychogeographics (tracing signs of underground networks), Topology&#60;br /&#62;
sketches a model for the future city flaneur.&#60;br /&#62;

		 <title>_____-micro_research workshops_finale: November 28th 2PM: Irrational Computing with Ralf Baecker</title>
		 <link>http://freshsent.telekommunisten.net/mail.cgi/archive/xxxxx/20091123161020/</link>
		 <description>&#60;p&#62;&#60;br /&#62;
The last in a series of regular workshops at _____-micro_research&#60;br /&#62;
. In 2010 we will initiate an interdisciplinary mobile&#60;br /&#62;
research laboratory devoted to the use of free software and open&#60;br /&#62;
hardware within the field of psychogeophysics. Field trips, working&#60;br /&#62;
groups and occassional workshops are planned. To celebrate this&#60;br /&#62;
transition a small party will be held on the 28th (8PM+) - all old and&#60;br /&#62;
new researchers are invited. Drinks will be served.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
//November 28th 2PM: Irrational Computing with Ralf Baecker&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Irrational Computing is a loose collection of ideas that includes&#60;br /&#62;
non-traditional logic gates, non-applied computing, minimal computing,&#60;br /&#62;
DIY transistors and homebrew CPUs.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
During the workshop we will build elementary arithmetic and logic&#60;br /&#62;
units that enable us to realise expandable, networked and looped&#60;br /&#62;
digital circuits with complex behaviour. We will feed our circuits&#60;br /&#62;
with binary patterns and explore their visual and auditive responses.&#60;br /&#62;
The major component of this workshop is the transistor and its&#60;br /&#62;
switching capability. In addition the workshop will give an&#60;br /&#62;
introduction and guidance into building handcrafted macroscopic&#60;br /&#62;
mechanical logic gates. Feel free to bring some potential material&#60;br /&#62;
(old toys, junk, springs, levers etc.) for logic investigations.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Ralf Baecker (1977) lives and works in Bremen, Germany. After studies&#60;br /&#62;
in computer science he attended the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne.&#60;br /&#62;
In 2007/2008 he taught at the department for &#38;quot;Design of Medial&#60;br /&#62;
Environments&#38;quot; at the Bauhaus University in Weimar. Baecker builds&#60;br /&#62;
kinetic installations and sculptures which interlink symbolic and&#60;br /&#62;
physical spaces. His epistemological machines explore our imagination&#60;br /&#62;
of digital processes.&#60;br /&#62;

		 <title>November 19th 8PM salon: Flankierende Massnahmen im Schienenersatzverkehr with Olsen Wolf</title>
		 <link>http://freshsent.telekommunisten.net/mail.cgi/archive/xxxxx/20091117125829/</link>
		 <description>&#60;p&#62;&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
micro research salons on the last Thursday of each month (and&#60;br /&#62;
occasional other dates) for local and international researchers to&#60;br /&#62;
gather to discuss common research themes and endeavour.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
November 19th 8PM salon: Flankierende Massnahmen im Schienenersatzverkehr&#60;br /&#62;
with Olsen Wolf&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
- Accompanying arrangements at rail replacement bus service&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
- acousthesia upgrade&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
'Accompanying arrangements at rail replacement bus service&#38;#146; is a sound&#60;br /&#62;
installation performed by a robot named &#38;#145;Hyper Line Tracer&#38;#146;. In&#60;br /&#62;
residency at _____-micro-research we'll be exploring an acousthesia&#60;br /&#62;
upgrade to expose the robot into a feedback actuated orbit: The robot&#60;br /&#62;
is carrying a radio transmitter and a microphone on its back and is&#60;br /&#62;
surrounded by various radios, receiving the signal emitted from the&#60;br /&#62;
robot. As the microphone is transmitting the signals coming from the&#60;br /&#62;
radio speakers back to the radio receivers, feedback noise is&#60;br /&#62;
generated. Hence by passing the series of radios, with their different&#60;br /&#62;
positions &#38;amp; characteristics a composition of feedback noise&#60;br /&#62;
emerges. With the applied sensitivity to sound the robot is guided by&#60;br /&#62;
the noise created upon its own movements. In the end the robot&#60;br /&#62;
generates and moves within its own labyrinth of noises and feedback&#60;br /&#62;
tones.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
For the salon various 'Accompanying Arrangements' will be performed&#60;br /&#62;
and examined. With drinks and conversation. Free. RSVP.&#60;br /&#62;

		 <title>Reminder: Remote Control//workshop and broadcast on TV programme programming with Linda Hilfling 14th Nov</title>
		 <link>http://freshsent.telekommunisten.net/mail.cgi/archive/xxxxx/20091112124957/</link>
		 <description>&#60;p&#62;&#60;br /&#62;
In this workshop we will try to go beyond the general notion of&#60;br /&#62;
democratic media as a matter of access and instead re-examine the&#60;br /&#62;
concept by itself. When broken apart, it raises questions around&#60;br /&#62;
systems of organization and means of control. The workshop is on one&#60;br /&#62;
side a conceptual framework for the discussion and exploration of&#60;br /&#62;
participatory media production and the relation between code, content&#60;br /&#62;
and execution, but also a 'hands-on' introduction to simple&#60;br /&#62;
commandline video editing. We will develop TV programmes - small&#60;br /&#62;
scripts that executes video content in different ways. &#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
At the end of the day we will turn the space into a pirate TV channel&#60;br /&#62;
and make a collective transmission out of our TV programming efforts.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Please bring video material and computer.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Fee: 5 euros (includes food!)&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Please email &#60;a href=&#34;mailto:&#38;#109;&#38;#64;&#38;#49;&#38;#48;&#38;#49;&#38;#48;&#38;#46;&#38;#x63;&#38;#111;&#38;#46;&#38;#x75;&#38;#x6B;&#34;&#62;&#38;#109;&#38;#64;&#38;#49;&#38;#48;&#38;#49;&#38;#48;&#38;#46;&#38;#x63;&#38;#111;&#38;#46;&#38;#x75;&#38;#x6B;&#60;/a&#62; to reserve a place (strictly limited)&#60;br /&#62;

&#60;br /&#62;
November 14th 2PM: Remote Control &#38;#150; a workshop on TV programme&#60;br /&#62;
programming with Linda Hilfling&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
In 1932 Bertolt Brecht formulated a critique of the radio as a&#60;br /&#62;
centralized mass media, and advocated a decentralized media structure&#60;br /&#62;
with as many senders as receivers. Ever since, the general notion of&#60;br /&#62;
democratic media has been, and still is, identical to people getting&#60;br /&#62;
access to transmitting their own content. From independent grassroot&#60;br /&#62;
TV makers to pirate radio stations or online digital platforms, the&#60;br /&#62;
aim has been to create a perfect, democratic media structure by&#60;br /&#62;
granting people access to the technology. Today though, with a media&#60;br /&#62;
landscape made up of corporate internet service providers, Brecht's&#60;br /&#62;
visions seem to have been fulfilled. However, paradoxically enough, by&#60;br /&#62;
venture entrepreneurs capitalizing on so called architectures of&#60;br /&#62;
participation.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
In this workshop we will try to go beyond the general notion of&#60;br /&#62;
democratic media as a matter of access and instead re-examine the&#60;br /&#62;
concept by itself. When broken apart, it raises questions around&#60;br /&#62;
systems of organization and means of control. The workshop is on one&#60;br /&#62;
side a conceptual framework for the discussion and exploration of&#60;br /&#62;
participatory media production and the relation between code, content&#60;br /&#62;
and execution, but also a 'hands-on' introduction to simple&#60;br /&#62;
commandline video editing. We will develop TV programmes - small&#60;br /&#62;
scripts that executes video content in different ways. At the end of&#60;br /&#62;
the day we will turn the space into a pirate TV channel and make a&#60;br /&#62;
collective transmission out of our TV programming efforts.&#60;br /&#62;

Background:&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Workshops led by field-expert practitioners extend over realms of code&#60;br /&#62;
and embedded code, environmental code, noise, transmission and&#60;br /&#62;
reception, and electromysticism. Workshops solely utilise free&#60;br /&#62;
software and GNU toolbase.&#60;br /&#62;

		 <link>http://freshsent.telekommunisten.net/mail.cgi/archive/xxxxx/20091030141533/</link>
		 <description>&#60;p&#62;&#60;br /&#62;
A series of working groups, events and workshops at&#60;br /&#62;
_____-micro_research ; an independent research centre focusing&#60;br /&#62;
on the expanded construction and experience of free software and open&#60;br /&#62;
hardware.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Calendar:&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
October 31st 9PM: aether9 in performance at Rupert Goldsworthy Gallery&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
November 7th 2PM: Data carving with Danja Vasiliev and Gordan Savicic&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Forthcoming matter: &#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
tv programming, [micro-]cuisine, plotting, handmade logic&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
//&#38;lt;-----------------------------------------------&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
November 7th 2PM: Data carving with Danja Vasiliev and Gordan Savicic&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
    * information excavation, digital archeology, offline privacy&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
During the workshop we will explore the contents of found hard-disks&#60;br /&#62;
(hard-disque trouv&#38;eacute;). Using methods borrowed from computer digital&#60;br /&#62;
forensics participants will peek into the lives of others - former&#60;br /&#62;
owners of scavenged hardware. Hard-disks as the most intimate part of&#60;br /&#62;
any computer system. In case of a personal computer - the most&#60;br /&#62;
intimate part of person's life. Deductively, we will try to discuss&#60;br /&#62;
and recreate 'psyche' portraits of those strangers and restore the&#60;br /&#62;
time-lines that otherwise would have faded away. In the times of&#60;br /&#62;
paranoiac privacy awareness we forget that online is not the only&#60;br /&#62;
place to loose your identity. Although more and more personal data is&#60;br /&#62;
stored on the Internet servers it is still written to&#60;br /&#62;
hard-disks. There were several reports about Internet server's&#60;br /&#62;
hard-disks ending up on flea-markets, being sold for little money.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;a href=&#34;http://www.eworldwire.com/pressreleases/16402&#34;&#62;http://www.eworldwire.com/pressreleases/16402&#60;/a&#62;&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;a href=&#34;http://redtape.msnbc.com/2006/06/one_year_ago_ha.html&#34;&#62;http://redtape.msnbc.com/2006/06/one_year_ago_ha.html&#60;/a&#62;&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;a href=&#34;http://homepage.cc/harddisk&#34;&#62;http://homepage.cc/harddisk&#60;/a&#62;&#60;br /&#62;

&#60;br /&#62;
By the end of the workshop all the hard-disks and/or the data will be&#60;br /&#62;
destroyed!&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
    * Workshop prerequisites:&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
All participants are asked to go local flea-markets or second-hand&#60;br /&#62;
shops to pick up few old hard-disks. You may try eBay as well. Older =&#60;br /&#62;
better, those disks don't need to be of large capacity, in fact 8-16&#60;br /&#62;
Gigabytes is the best size to be able to analyze it during one-day&#60;br /&#62;
session. They also don't need to have any operating system. Make sure&#60;br /&#62;
the disks are 3.5&#38;#148; and have standard IDE interface.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Everybody is also expected to bring laptops (PC, Intel Macs) capable&#60;br /&#62;
of booting from USB-sticks or CDs and equipped with USB2.0&#60;br /&#62;
interfaces. GNU/Linux command line knowledge will be advantageous,&#60;br /&#62;
however it is not required.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Workshop is lead by moddr_ - Danja Vasiliev and Gordan Savicic,&#60;br /&#62;
experimentalists and interventionists on the edge of digital life and&#60;br /&#62;
everyday technology. &#60;a href=&#34;http://moddr.net&#34;&#62;http://moddr.net&#60;/a&#62;&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Fee: 10 euros (all materials and food!)&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Please email &#60;a href=&#34;mailto:&#38;#109;&#38;#x40;&#38;#x31;&#38;#48;&#38;#49;&#38;#x30;&#38;#x2E;&#38;#99;&#38;#x6F;&#38;#x2E;&#38;#117;&#38;#x6B;&#34;&#62;&#38;#109;&#38;#x40;&#38;#x31;&#38;#48;&#38;#49;&#38;#x30;&#38;#x2E;&#38;#99;&#38;#x6F;&#38;#x2E;&#38;#117;&#38;#x6B;&#60;/a&#62; to reserve a place (strictly limited)&#60;br /&#62;

&#60;br /&#62;
&#38;AElig;ther9, an experiment in collaborative realtime storytelling is gathering souls in a dramatically online fashion.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
BERLIN will host a physical reunion, a s&#38;eacute;ance, workshop, conspiracy,&#60;br /&#62;
residency, and eventually a performance.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
During their one-week residency at _____-micro research , the&#60;br /&#62;
networked &#38;AElig;ther9 members will meet in physical space for the first&#60;br /&#62;
time to redefine the evolution of the project, develop technical&#60;br /&#62;
applications, and re-experiment with new ideas which will explore the&#60;br /&#62;
scenographic potential of the medium. The foundations being&#60;br /&#62;
distributed authorship, cross-platform, and 'remote&#38;#146; performance of&#60;br /&#62;
streaming audio and visual material to a nomadic HTML interface. This&#60;br /&#62;
event of live performances and video streams from vast locations will&#60;br /&#62;
take you to &#38;#145;the unexpected&#38;#146; - a hyperdrive through space and&#60;br /&#62;
inter-zones.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
At the heart of the &#38;AElig;ther9 project is the desire to fulfill the &#38;quot;old&#38;quot;&#60;br /&#62;
utopian dream of borderless communication. No frontiers. Developed by&#60;br /&#62;
an online networked group of international visual artists/collectives&#60;br /&#62;
working through Oceania, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and into the&#60;br /&#62;
Americas, &#38;AElig;ther9 is a matrix for video/audio performance, and&#60;br /&#62;
collaborative hybrids of post-dramatic processes particular to these&#60;br /&#62;
new modes of digital communication. Using both &#38;#147;new&#38;#147; and &#38;#147;low-tech&#38;#147;&#60;br /&#62;
technologies within multi-disciplinary art practices, &#38;AElig;ther9 aims to&#60;br /&#62;
break the boundaries of spatial and cultural distances to democratize&#60;br /&#62;
the artistic voice within communication technology. The term of&#60;br /&#62;
&#38;#147;reality-jamming&#38;#148; catches the effect generated through this wildly&#60;br /&#62;
dispersed yet intimate collaboration of live sounds and images whose&#60;br /&#62;
fragmented glimpses of individual philosophical positions and&#60;br /&#62;
immediate surroundings transition across the global network in one&#60;br /&#62;
cross-planetary embrace.&#60;br /&#62;

All you that fain philosophers would be &#60;br /&#62;
And night and day in Geber's kitchen broil, &#60;br /&#62;
Wasting the chips of ancient Hermes' tree ; &#60;br /&#62;
Weening to turn them to a precious oil ; &#60;br /&#62;
The more you work, the more you lose and spoil : &#60;br /&#62;
To you I say, how learn'd so e'er you be, &#60;br /&#62;
Go burn your books, and come and learn of me.&#60;br /&#62;

NOISE_PRODUCE: Concerned with techniques for the elaboration of&#60;br /&#62;
experimental signal generation; mis-use of digital electronics for the&#60;br /&#62;
active examination of noise and materiality within the context of&#60;br /&#62;
industrial electronics, engineering, economy and the event or&#60;br /&#62;
situation.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
MAKE YOUR OWN NEURAL NETWORK: This one day workshop is the final part&#60;br /&#62;
of a series of open experiments and workshops. It materialises all six&#60;br /&#62;
previous in the creation of a simple autonomous stable/astable&#60;br /&#62;
CMOS-noise synthesizer unit with a specially expandable neural design&#60;br /&#62;
model.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
DIY: ELECTRONIC KNOW HOW IS NOT REQUIRED. Expansive speculation, also&#60;br /&#62;
continuous confusion is welcome as starting point. Includes all&#60;br /&#62;
diagrams and schematics, specially developed circuit boards,&#60;br /&#62;
electronic parts and pieces. All tools are supplied. Electronics&#60;br /&#62;
construction skills [including soldering, debugging, repairs, own&#60;br /&#62;
experiments] will be assisted.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Cost: &#38;#128;12 per participant (this includes all materials, and food)&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
There will be a short, public performance closing the workshop at 8PM&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;

Background:&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Workshops led by field-expert practitioners extend over realms of code&#60;br /&#62;
and embedded code, environmental code, noise, transmission and&#60;br /&#62;
reception, and electromysticism. Workshops solely utilise free&#60;br /&#62;
software and GNU toolbase.&#60;br /&#62;

noise&#38;quot; workshop. If you want to be on stage too, come to the workshop&#60;br /&#62;
(last day saturday at Linienstrasse 54) to build your own ASCII based&#60;br /&#62;
software instrument!&#60;br /&#62;

&#60;a href=&#34;http://1010.co.uk/org/workshop.html&#34;&#62;http://1010.co.uk/org/workshop.html&#60;/a&#62;&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
=== Karsten Gebbert - &#38;quot;Monsoon&#38;quot; ===&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Karsten Gebbert (DE/US) is an '''un'''trained musician, recording artist&#60;br /&#62;
and software developer with a passion for the realm of the unexplored&#60;br /&#62;
corners of ones own mind and the challenges those frequently produce. He&#60;br /&#62;
has been making music in various formations since 1996 - now he is part&#60;br /&#62;
of the GOTO10 collective and also plays with a nameless (but awesome)&#60;br /&#62;
Berlin band project. His newest favourite project is building a FLOSS&#60;br /&#62;
recording studio together with his comrades from the band.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
This new performance is an attempt to mix a few divergent practices in&#60;br /&#62;
sound creation and manipulation in order to explore the vast space of&#60;br /&#62;
possible modulations between the organized, structured and quantized&#60;br /&#62;
space of music and the fluidity of sound scapes from chaotic sound&#60;br /&#62;
generators, recorded material and more conventional synthesis. The&#60;br /&#62;
results are spectrally rich (or poor) sound-scapes, rotten, aliasing wav&#60;br /&#62;
files of walks through parks and streets as well as deep sinusoidal&#60;br /&#62;
bass-lines and beats influenced heavily by instrumental rap music. All&#60;br /&#62;
his music is realised in the SuperCollider 3 environment.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
=== Adrian Vacca - &#38;quot;Why Is It?&#38;quot; part 1-2-9 ===&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Jan-Kees van Kampen(NL) is a software enthusiast, who spends some of his&#60;br /&#62;
time doing sound programming and composition with SuperCollider, and&#60;br /&#62;
additionally works as teacher, technician and farmer. He is part of the&#60;br /&#62;
GOTO10 collective, PBUP (a network music band) and the Schreck Ensemble&#60;br /&#62;
for electro-acoustic music.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
&#38;quot;Why Is It?&#38;quot; is a series of thematic sound pieces that was started in&#60;br /&#62;
2000. Adrian Vacca will play pt.1 and 2 and the new pt.9: &#38;quot; Why Is It we&#60;br /&#62;
don't move to the other, walk in circles, gobble the fodder ?&#38;quot;.&#60;br /&#62;
Improvising with typical stage artefacts like hum, ground loop, and&#60;br /&#62;
known examples of vocal virtuosity from down under.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
A generative set of rhythmic simplicity, pop ambience and happy noise,&#60;br /&#62;
exploring harmonicity in a nonharmonic context.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
=== Aymeric Mansoux - &#38;quot;4NX&#38;quot; ===&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Aymeric Mansoux is a founding member of the GOTO10 collective. His main&#60;br /&#62;
artistic and research interests revolve around online communities, open&#60;br /&#62;
and distributed practices, software as a medium and the influence of&#60;br /&#62;
FLOSS in the development and understanding of software art. He currently&#60;br /&#62;
lives in the Netherlands and teaches at the Networked Media Master of&#60;br /&#62;
the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
'''4NX''' is an audiovisual noise sculpture, starting with the panic of&#60;br /&#62;
a flat signal, turning it into image then back into sound, the&#60;br /&#62;
bootstrapping of a stochastic noise generator, the search for structure&#60;br /&#62;
and frozen moments of accidental beauty. A cornucopia of clicks, pops&#60;br /&#62;
and glitches. 4NX is violent but draws you into this world of chaos&#60;br /&#62;
through its black and white aesthetics, melancholic atmosphere and&#60;br /&#62;
unexpected shaping of raw noise into hypnotic patterns. 4NX is an&#60;br /&#62;
ongoing research on noise aesthetics.&#60;/p&#62;

		 <title>_____-micro_research workshops:27: October 16/17th: /mode +v noise with GOTO10 and performance</title>
		 <link>http://freshsent.telekommunisten.net/mail.cgi/archive/xxxxx/20091012165606/</link>
		 <description>&#60;p&#62;&#60;br /&#62;
A series of weekly working groups and workshops at&#60;br /&#62;
_____-micro_research ; an independent research centre focusing&#60;br /&#62;
on the expanded construction and experience of free software and open&#60;br /&#62;
hardware.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Calendar:&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
October 16/17th 2PM/12PM: /mode +v noise with GOTO10&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
October 17th 8PM: GOTO10 at General Public&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Forthcoming matter: &#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
tv programming, micro-cuisine, data carving, plotting, handmade logic&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
//&#38;lt;-----------------------------------------------&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
** October 16/17th 2PM/12PM: /mode +v noise with GOTO10&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
&#38;#147;/mode +v noise&#38;#148; is a project of GOTO10, a collective of international&#60;br /&#62;
artists and computer programmers. It is based on IRC, the oldest&#60;br /&#62;
text-based Internet chat environment. This intervention will transform&#60;br /&#62;
an IRC chat room/channel into a simple, collaborative, text-based online&#60;br /&#62;
system for making music. Since IRC allows &#38;#145;chat bots&#38;#146;- computer programs&#60;br /&#62;
that pretend to be human conversation partners -, we will program such a&#60;br /&#62;
bot to create a collective musical composition environment based on&#60;br /&#62;
Internet chats. In this workshop, participants will explore two parts of&#60;br /&#62;
the project: designing sound generators in Supercollider that they can&#60;br /&#62;
control via a simple IRC bot written in Python. Workshop is taught by&#60;br /&#62;
Aymeric Mansoux and Jan-Kees van Kampen from GOTO10.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
PREREQUISITES: This workshop is aimed to beginners, no previous&#60;br /&#62;
knowledge is required but a basic understanding of computers and an&#60;br /&#62;
unconditional love for command line and text based interfaces is&#60;br /&#62;
mandatory!&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
To bring:&#60;br /&#62;
 * bring your own Laptop (PC based, macbook/mactel, recent imac, etc. We&#60;br /&#62;
   can't provide support for PPC based Mac such as the old G3-4-5-...)&#60;br /&#62;
 * bring your own headphones&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Cost: &#38;#128;20 per participant for both days (this includes food)&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Please email &#60;a href=&#34;mailto:&#38;#109;&#38;#64;&#38;#49;&#38;#x30;&#38;#49;&#38;#48;&#38;#x2E;&#38;#x63;&#38;#111;&#38;#x2E;&#38;#x75;&#38;#107;&#34;&#62;&#38;#109;&#38;#64;&#38;#49;&#38;#x30;&#38;#49;&#38;#48;&#38;#x2E;&#38;#x63;&#38;#111;&#38;#x2E;&#38;#x75;&#38;#107;&#60;/a&#62; to reserve a place (strictly limited to 8)&#60;br /&#62;

=== About Supercollider ===&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
SuperCollider is an environment and programming language originally&#60;br /&#62;
released in 1996 by James McCartney for real time audio synthesis and&#60;br /&#62;
algorithmic composition. Since then it has been evolving into a system&#60;br /&#62;
used and further developed by both scientists and artists working with&#60;br /&#62;
sound. It is an efficient and expressive dynamic programming language&#60;br /&#62;
which makes it an interesting framework for acoustic research,&#60;br /&#62;
algorithmic music and interactive programming. We will deal with&#60;br /&#62;
practical sound-synthesis, jitlib (rapid prototyping), and get ourselves&#60;br /&#62;
sounding ready for the irc-jam on the second day.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
=== About Python ===&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Python is a general-purpose high-level programming language. Its design&#60;br /&#62;
philosophy emphasizes code readability. Python claims to &#38;quot;&#60;br /&#62;
remarkable power with very clear syntax&#38;quot;, and its standard library is&#60;br /&#62;
large and comprehensive.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
=== About Puredyne ===&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Puredyne is an operating system developed to provide media artists with&#60;br /&#62;
a complete set of tools for realtime audio and video processing.&#60;br /&#62;
Puredyne is a live distribution, you don't need to install anything.&#60;br /&#62;
Simply boot your computer using the live CD or USB and you're ready to&#60;br /&#62;
start using software such as Pure Data, Supercollider, Icecast, Csound,&#60;br /&#62;
Fluxus, Processing, Arduino and much much more. &#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
=== About GOTO10 ===&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
GOTO10 aims to support and grow digital art projects and tools for&#60;br /&#62;
artistic creation, located on the blurry line between software&#60;br /&#62;
programming and art. GOTO10's members have backgrounds in visual arts,&#60;br /&#62;
sound art, music technology, physical computing and programming. They&#60;br /&#62;
have worked around the theme of FLOSS+Art since 2003, using&#60;br /&#62;
performances, workshops, installations, print, and code repositories as&#60;br /&#62;
their medium.&#60;br /&#62;

A series of weekly working groups and workshops at&#60;br /&#62;
_____-micro_research ; an independent research centre focusing&#60;br /&#62;
on the expanded construction and experience of free software and open&#60;br /&#62;
hardware.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Calendar:&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
October 10th 2PM: Light Unseen with Kathrin G&#38;uuml;nter&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
October 16/17th 2PM: /mode +v noise with GOTO10&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Forthcoming matter: &#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
tv programming, Python/IRC/PD/SC, micro-cuisine, data carving,&#60;br /&#62;
plotting, handmade logic&#60;br /&#62;

October 10th 2PM: Light Unseen with Kathrin G&#38;uuml;nter&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Thought is a radiant, creative, almost material power, the fiat lux of&#60;br /&#62;
the bible. During the process of thinking, the soul turns the atoms of&#60;br /&#62;
the brain into waves and makes its phosphor glow. With concentrating&#60;br /&#62;
ones thought onto any object with simple outlines, like a bottle for&#60;br /&#62;
example, the fluidic thought image will be forced out through the eyes&#60;br /&#62;
to expose itself through the power of its glow onto the photographic&#60;br /&#62;
plate. The result is a photographic image.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
[Louis Darget, 1911]&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
In &#38;quot;Light Unseen&#38;quot; participants will try, throughout a variety of&#60;br /&#62;
thoughto - photographic experiments, to focus, force, project and&#60;br /&#62;
possibly expose thoughts onto photosensitive materials. &#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
All necessary materials, including photographic emulsion, chemicals,&#60;br /&#62;
film, paper and polaroid will be provided. Containers or devices may be&#60;br /&#62;
constructed here or welcome to be brought along. &#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Thoughts are welcome. Results cannot be promised.&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;br /&#62;
Kathrin G&#38;uuml;nter, artist and photographer has been exploring extensively&#60;br /&#62;
gossip, star behaviour and the phenomenon of paparazzi photography.&#60;br /&#62;
Recent researches include thoughtographic theories, practises and other&#60;br /&#62;
invisible phenomena of the early twentieth century.&#60;br /&#62;
